How to Unpack Like a Pro after Your Move?
There is no denial in the fact that moving is tough, by the time you are left with the work of unpacking, you are almost done with the process. The process of unpacking is somehow easier than packing and transporting your stuff from one house to another and if you hire packers and movers then it becomes even easier.
It is exciting to settle into a new home that is the reason
unpacking comes up with a lot of fun and happiness! You must have invested a
lot of time to pack your moving boxes and load your belongings on to the moving
truck and labeling the boxes properly after sorting them.
Here are some of the
tips to pack like a pro that will help with the entire unpacking process and
make it as much stress free as possible
- Before You Move in your new house
Before your belongings reach the threshold of your new house
with the help of moving organization or by yourself you should give a thorough
cleaning to the new place. If the previous landlord have cleaned the house then
you are lucky for sure. Just have a look so that you keep your belongings in
cleaned spaces.
It will save you from a lot of hassle if you get this done
before hand. Make sure you pack your furniture pieces after cleaning them
because it would not be possible for you after unpacking at your new place.
Make sure you are ready with all the unpacking supplies such
as scissors, cutters and garbage bags.
- First day post your move
Now that you have cleaned your house and you are ready to
go, it’s time to start with the process of unpacking. You don’t have to unpack
everything on the very first day, just unpack the boxes that have essentials.
If you have packed any perishable food items then unpack them first. Other
eatables can be unpacked later. Unpack some basic items like drinking glasses,
plates, silverware and the utensils that you will require to cook food for the
night. At the end, you will require food to fuel yourself and work rest of the
things.
The next thing that
you have to do is prepare the bedding to have a sound sleep that you have not
been able to get for months. That freshly made bed will feel like heaven once
you will place your back over it. Just prepare the bed for you and your family,
if you have guest beds as well then they can be left to be made later. Make
sure you unpack the toiletries as well because you will require them the next
morning and also in the night.
One bathroom should be fully operational to be used with soaps, shampoo, hand wash and fresh towels. If you have kids then also prepare for things you require for them in the bathroom.
- On the second day – post move
Today is the day to begin with your wardrobe. Start with
clothes that you need to wear in the current season. If there is something that
you will not be wearing until next year then it can be unpacked later. Try to
get everything as organized as possible while unpacking and arranging. Don’t do the mistake of dumping everything in
your closet. It would be better if you arrange everything properly.
Get to work on the rest of the kitchen today as well. Try to
plan where you would like everything to go before you begin so that you don’t
have change the placement of anything over and over again.
If you have brought dry food items then keep them in the
pantry or cabinets, and unpack all the pots, pans and utensils that you need
for your everyday use. For the rest of the kitchen items that you use
sometimes, find a place for it in the cabinets or pack them to go into the
storage areas where you will be keeping extra items.
- Over the Next Few Weeks
Now that you are done
with the task of unpacking your essentials, you can take a sigh of relief. You
don’t have unpack the rest of the belongings now. You can now select the room
you want to unpack according to the need of your family. Kid’s room might be
important for you or perhaps you would like to arrange the living room first.
Whatever you choose to unpack next make sure you invest time in it because if
you arrange things in hurry then you will again have to give time to arrange
them in an appropriate way.
It is advisable to work on a single room at a time and
unpack box by box. If you think that you don’t have space for a few things in
your bedroom then don’t unpack it and place that box in the garage. If you do
things in an organized way then the overall process will seem less daunting to
you.
When you start living
in a new house then it happens often when you are not able to decide to place
some stuff so you can designate one box or say cabinet of your house for them.
Don’t keep such things here and there. It will make your house messy and you
will get confused before arranging your new house completely.
Feel free to take plenty of breaks during the process to
explore, you can explore the area of your outside of your house in the
evenings. At least you can go out to find your local post office, grocery
store, your kids’ schools, and other essential areas. Notify your friends and
family about your new address, and introduce yourself to your new neighbours.
This is how you would be able to unpack your belongings and arrange your new house within two days of your move. For better assistance you can hire packers and movers.
Have a happy, safe and successful move!
